Summer 2023 Newsletter
Posted on Jul 28, 2023

It is hard to believe that there are only two weeks left in the Rock River League season before the playoffs start. The summer is moving along very rapidly, at least for me. The top teams in the league, Kewaskum, Hartford, Rubicon, Neosho and Clyman have secured playoff spots and another half a dozen or so teams are battling it out for the remaining spots. If you haven’t made it out to your local ballpark yet, the time to do so is now. We have two more Old-timers events in and have two more to yet take place. Our 10th Annual Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, October 7th at Horicon Hills Golf Club. Our Annual Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, October 28th at Lions Hall in Clyman. There will be much more to follow on both events later in the newsletter. We have lost 3 members of the RRL Old-timers, with Don Schuster, Jim Pirkel and Jerry Bunkoske all passing away this past May. Our condolences go out to their families. PLEASE EVERYONE, it is important to sign up new members to keep this organization moving forward!

On June 4, the RRL Old-timers held their first picnic outing at the Neosho vs Clyman game in Clyman. Steve put together a good lunch for the 25 or so members that were present. There were a few faces there that I haven’t seen in a while. Many good memories were re-hashed, good food and a good ball game between two of the top teams in the Southern Division. I would hope that we can do this again next year, maybe moving the location around the league.

July 11 was the date selected to travel to Wisconsin Brewing Company Ballpark in Oconomowoc to watch the game between the Lake Country Dockhounds and the Sioux City Explorers. It is a great ballpark with good seating options. Only 12 people attended this event, but those there had a good time and saw a good ballgame. It’s up in the air if this is something we would do again next year. I would like to see more participation from the membership if we do this next year. Maybe we could switch from an afternoon game to a night game?

The 10th Annual Rock River League Old-timers Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, October 7th at Horicon Hills Golf Club. A registration form is included in this mailing. We are looking for help in several areas to make this event run smoothly. If anyone could donate a prize to be raffled off, whether it be gift cards, baskets or bigger prizes, such as an air fryer, pizza oven, things of that nature and price range, it would help us out a lot. Steve, Ron and I aren’t getting any younger and any help with prizes would be greatly appreciated. I would like to have the prizes by October 1st. We are also looking for help with set up on the day of the event. This might include registering the golfers and taking their payments, organizing the prizes for everyone to see, taking care of the 50/50 raffle after the meal. If anyone could help with this event, please contact Bob, Steve or Ron. Even if you aren’t a golfer, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Annual Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, October 28th, 2023 at Lions Hall in Clyman. Chef Chanse of Juneau will again provide the meal. I hope everyone makes plans to attend this year as we have a good group of candidates up for election. More information is available on the Banquet Information Page.
