Spring 2022 Newsletter
Posted on Mar 07, 2022

Hello to everyone,

It is that time of year again to get rolling for 2022. After a mild winter and getting through things we have no control over, spring is just around the corner. And that means it is time for baseball. Just recapping 2021, our Brewer trip was cancelled due to lack if interest., but we will try again this year. Our Annual RRL Old-timers Outing was held at Rubicon during the RRL Playoffs. Our 8th Annual RRL Old-timers Golf Outing was held at Horicon Hills and was a huge success. We are adding more teams every year and the weather cooperated. And finally, our RRL Old-timers Hall of Fame Banquet was held at Clyman Lions Hall. A very good time was had by all. Our Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at Clyman. Please try to attend, especially if you have a former player or teammate you would like to see nominated.

                                                                                                                   President Steve Lehmann

The Annual Meeting of the Rock River League Old-timers will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Lions Hall in Clyman. The meeting will start at 1:30 PM. There are several things that must be decided on so your attendance is very important. We need to decide if we want to plan a group outing to a ball game this year. The Rock River League has changed their playoff plans for this year so we need to decide on a time and place for an outing. We need to select a new caterer for the banquet as Edith’s Cakes and Catering has closed their doors. Then there is the usual golf outing planning and banquet planning, selecting nominees for the Hall of Fame and electing officers. It will be a busy meeting. Please make plans to attend.

The 2021 Hall of Fame Banquet was finally held on Saturday, October 3, 2021 after a one-year absence due to COVID-19 restrictions. It, as always, was a huge success. Our congratulations go out to the new Hall of Fame members Brad Tagliapietra of Brownsville, Terry Koth of Kewaskum, Andy Kasten of Watertown and Kyle Krueger of Clyman. Honored posthumously with the Rock Diamond Award was Dave Zimmerman of Slinger/Pardeeville. Please offer them your congratulations.

The Rock River League Old-timers have set up a CHEDDARUP account. This allows you to pay your membership fees online if you so choose. You can access the account at: https://rock-river-league-old-timers-registration-cheddarup.com.

This is the part where I would give out our plans for a trip to a Brewer game. But since we don’t know if there will be a season, we can’t do that. But we do have other options such as the Wisconsin Timberrattlers, Beloit Sky Carp, Madison Mallards, Lakeshore Chinooks and Fond du Lac Dock Spiders are all within a 90-minute drive. Let your officers know if you are interested in attending a baseball game as a group.

Welcome to our newest member, Jamison Kaul, an outfielder for Hustisford. I am very sad to report on the passing of Hall of Fame outfielder randy Kuehl of Hustisford. Randy died of a heart attack on January 18, 2022. On February 9, 2022, we lost Hall of Fame umpire rube Schulz. Rube passed away on February 9, 2022 on his 88th birthday. Our membership is down to 178 members. It is everyone’s responsibility to recruit new members to keep our organization going.

The 9th Annual Rock River League Old-timers Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Horicon Hills Golf Club. This is always a fun event filled with many awards and prizes to be given out along with a delicious meal and some surprisingly good golf. As always, hopefully the weather cooperates. We made over $1700 on last year’s event. This is our main fund raiser for the year so please make plans to attend. More information will be in the Fall newsletter.

The Annual Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Lions Hall in Clyman. Cocktail hour starts at 6:00 and the meal will start at 7:00. More details will be in the Fall newsletter.
